The renowned television personality, who was best known for co-hosting the reality-historical program American Pickers, died at the age of 60 last month.
The program premiered in 2010 and continued for a successful 26 seasons, becoming the History Channel’s third-most viewed show.
Fritz appeared with Mike Wolfe as they went around the United States looking for unique artifacts to sell for customers and their own personal collections.
The two followed leads to discover collectibles, but they would also ‘freestyle’ stop at random areas in the hopes of finding something interesting and valuable.
Fritz and Wolfe investigated people’s houses, barns, sheds, and other unusual sites where antiques and treasures may be housed.
Despite the show’s success, Fritz left the series in March 2020 due to claims of a conflict between the co-stars.
In July 2021, Fritz informed The Sun that he underwent back surgery and had to cease shooting. He also said that he suffered from Crohn’s disease and abused alcohol.
“I haven’t talked to Mike in two years,” the actor said in the same interview.
“He knew my back was messed up, but he didn’t call me up and ask how I was doing. That’s just how it is.”
In reaction to these remarks, Wolfe told The Sun: “We all do care about Frank and we want him back on the show. I would love to talk with him again, we would absolutely love to, but he just can’t get it right.”
“Frank is just going through a lot personally with addictions. It’s unfortunate that he’s made decisions that have him the way he is,” he added.
Wolfe announced the untimely death of his former co-star and friend on Instagram, writing: “I’ve known Frank for more than half my life and what you’ve seen on TV has always been what I have seen, a dreamer who was just as sensitive as he was funny. The same off-camera as he was on, Frank had a way of reaching the hearts of so many by just being himself.”
“I love you buddy and will miss you so much I know your in a better place.”
Since Fritz’s death was announced, admirers have flocked to pay respect to the icon.
One writes: “I really enjoyed watching the show. The chemistry between the two best friends was so authentic. My condolences to his family and to Mike. He will be truly missed.”
Another adds: “This is truly sad. Loved American Pickers and I still watch it now. RIP Frank.”
“We’ve been binging American Pickers since we heard the news. We love Frank,” a third replies.
Fritz’s manager, Bill Stankey, told People he is an ‘amazing human being.’
“He loved life, he cared about people, he always had a kind word to say and he knew more about Americana and antiques than anyone I ever met.
“He was the anchor of American Pickers. He will be missed by his friends, family, and fans.”
Fritz died as a result of a ‘late sequela of cerebral infarction,’ implying that he suffered a stroke.
According to the journal, his deadly stroke was caused by cerebral vascular disease, which affects blood flow and blood arteries in the brain.
The reality star also suffered from aortic stenosis, a persistent ailment that impairs blood flow from the heart to the rest of the body.
Furthermore, Fritz had chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a common lung illness that makes breathing difficult, according to the World Health Organization.
According to his death certificate, each of these would have contributed to his death.
