John Lennon’s Son Shares The Taylor Swift Lyric That Made Him Feel ‘Uncomfortable’

This came up during a social media discussion about comments made by former U.S. President Donald Trump.

Trump openly shared his dislike for Taylor Swift, known for hits like “Bejeweled.”

But it turns out, Lennon has his issue with Swift.

Sean Lennon has had a successful music career himself.

He’s played in various bands, such as Cibo Matto, The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, and The Claypool Lennon Delirium, as well as his parents’ group, the Plastic Ono Band.

His solo career began with Into the Sun in 1998, followed by Friendly Fire in 2006.

He’s also produced music for artists like Black Lips.

In past interviews, Lennon has spoken about the significance of his father’s music and his parents’ legacy.

He told The Times, “One thing that distinguishes my dad’s solo career is how personal his lyrics became. It is like a diary, and it is my duty to bring attention to my father’s music. Not just my duty to him, but a duty to the world.”

He’s passionate about keeping his father’s legacy alive, adding, “With the world as it is now, people have forgotten so many things that I never imagined could be forgotten. I refuse to let that happen to this music — it means too much to me.”

Recently, though, his love for music seems to have been challenged by Taylor Swift.

Earlier this month, Trump posted “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT” on Truth Social after Swift endorsed Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.

In response, Lennon defended Swift, tweeting, “Hating on Taylor Swift is not a good look.”

His defense was interesting, considering he’s not a huge fan of her music.

He even admitted, “I can’t think of a single song, so I don’t really know if I like it or not.”

Despite that, Lennon acknowledged Swift’s success, calling her a “uniquely successful American” and praising her accomplishments.

He stated, “A young woman who has done things in a way that no one has done before her.” He said Swift deserves respect for her achievements and that people like her should be admired.

He added, “She is the kind of American that should be respected and in fact treasured. We need more, not less, Taylor Swifts in our world. People who thrive continually and consistently are exactly the kind of person both parties should embrace.”

Lennon also called Trump an “old grumpy dude,” suggesting his reaction to Swift was over the top.

He said a more respectful response from Trump could have been, “She is a brilliant young woman. I have a lot of respect for what she has accomplished. I don’t believe she knows the reality of the party she is endorsing.”

However, the next day, Lennon tweeted about the specific Swift lyric that made him feel uneasy. “I can’t believe I forgot this one but I actually remember a Taylor song called ‘Bad Blood’ (or something),” he wrote.

He explained that the line rhyming “mad love” with “bad blood” made him uncomfortable, admitting he does know some of her work.

He finished by saying, “I have nothing against her. I have a lot of respect for what she has accomplished. I certainly could never do what she does.”
