King Charles reportedly has a surprising nickname for Meghan Markle that reveals how he feels about her.
Since stepping down as senior royals in 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have faced a lot of controversy.
Even though they now live in California, far from royal duties and the media, they are still in the public eye.
The public rift was first highlighted during Prince Harry and Markle’s 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Among their claims was the shocking revelation that there had been conversations within the royal family about the potential skin color of their first child.
While Prince Harry later clarified that Queen Elizabeth II or Prince Philip were not the ones who made the remarks, the couple has chosen not to name the person responsible.
During the interview, he also voiced his disappointment, stating that the royal family failed to address the ‘colonial undertones’ in the media coverage of Markle.
He pointed out that while many female MPs spoke out against the biased treatment, his family remained silent.
This lack of response, he said, ‘hurt.’ The couple also criticized the UK media, calling it ‘bigoted’ and accusing it of creating a toxic environment of ‘control and fear,’ according to the BBC.
Even before stepping back from royal duties, Prince Harry spoke out against the press for how it treated Markle.
In November 2016, shortly after their relationship became public, Kensington Palace released a statement on his behalf.
The statement criticized the racial undertones in media coverage and the harassment Markle faced, including intrusions into her privacy and inappropriate efforts to investigate her past.
Prince Harry shared his worries about Markle’s safety and his frustration at not being able to protect her, saying: “This is not a game – it is her life and his.”
In his memoir Spare, he mentioned that this statement reportedly upset King Charles and Prince William because they felt it made them look bad for not defending their own wives in the same way.
According to Newsweek, the link to this statement was still active on December 3, 2023, but had been removed by December 10. The reason for its removal is unknown.
Adding to the complicated family relationships is King Charles’s reported nickname for Markle, which has recently been revealed.
This nickname, which showed a positive view of her strength, was reportedly created during a time when Charles seemed to support her.
In the couple’s Netflix documentary, Markle shared a heartfelt memory of Charles walking her down the aisle at her wedding when her estranged father could not be there.
She called him ‘very charming’ and said it meant a lot to her that he stepped into that role on her special day.
However, the relationship between Markle and the royal family has since worsened.
Reports suggest that Prince Harry is now trying to reconnect with Charles following the King’s recent cancer diagnosis.
Prince Harry reportedly hopes to bring his children, Archie and Lilibet, to visit Charles, but Markle is said to feel uneasy about returning to the UK because of past conflicts.
Still, in the early days of her time with the royal family, royal author Katie Nicholl, as noted in the Mirror, shared that Charles referred to Markle as ‘Tungsten,’ a term that symbolizes strength and resilience.
