Angelina Jolie And Brad Pitt Settle Divorce, Concluding 8-Year Legal Battle

Actors Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have settled their divorce, her lawyer told Reuters on Tuesday. This ends one of Hollywood’s most talked-about and difficult breakups.

Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt eight years ago. They had been married for two years and had been partners since 2005. Their relationship, involving two of Hollywood’s biggest stars, was a constant focus of tabloid media.

“This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over,” Jolie’s lawyer James Simon said in a statement. He confirmed that the divorce settlement has been completed, signed, and submitted to the court.

No details about the settlement have been shared yet. Pitt’s team did not respond to Reuters’ request for comment outside regular business hours.

Oscar-winning Jolie filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. She asked for full physical custody of their six children, who were between eight and 15 years old at the time while allowing Pitt visitation rights.

The divorce filing led to a tough custody battle, during which Pitt was investigated and cleared of child abuse. Both accused each other of trying to influence the media in their favor. They first reached a custody agreement with a private judge, giving both equal custody of their children.

“She doesn’t speak ill of him publicly or privately. She’s been trying hard to be light after a dark time,” a source close to the actress was cited as saying in the lawyer’s statement.

According to the source, the kids wanted her to “speak up for herself, to defend herself over these years. ”

Jolie, who won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Girl, Interrupted in 2000, was previously married to actors Jonny Lee Miller and Billy Bob Thornton.

Pitt was married to actress Jennifer Aniston in 2003 when he and Jolie filmed Mr. & Mrs. Smith, a movie about assassins unknowingly assigned to kill each other. There were reports of an affair, but Jolie told Vogue they were only “very, very good friends” until Pitt and Aniston separated in 2005.
