Dick Van Dyke In Coldplay’s Music Video For “All My Love”

Coldplay has released a video for their song “All My Love,” starring 98-year-old actor Dick Van Dyke. This special “Directors’ Cut” version of the video was co-directed by Spike Jonze and Mary Wigmore, and it came out before the official music video, which will be released on December 13, Van Dyke’s 99th birthday.

The video was filmed at Van Dyke’s home in Malibu and shows the actor, famous for movies like Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, reflecting on age, family, and love.

Van Dyke and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to preview a clip of the video and talk about their collaboration. When asked how they connected, Van Dyke admitted it’s a pairing he never expected. “They said, ‘Chris Martin called,'” he told Kimmel. “I said, ‘Who?’… To tell you the truth, I didn’t know who he was.”

Martin joked, “I didn’t know who you were either. I said, ‘We’re looking for an old guy. Who’s the oldest guy?'”

Martin then explained that the video was an idea he came up with along with Jonze because he and Van Dyke live only about eight miles apart. “One day a few years ago, I asked if he would come and have breakfast with me and my kids, and he was very kind,” Martin remembered. “He came with his beautiful wife Arlene.” He also said that Mary Poppins is his “number one.”

“All My Love” is on Coldplay’s latest album, Moon Music, which was released in October. The band spent a lot of 2024 touring before the album’s release as part of their Music of the Spheres world tour. They recently finished shows in Australia and New Zealand and will start touring again early next year with dates in the Middle East and Asia (including what might be their biggest show ever in Ahmedabad, India). A North American leg will begin on May 31 in Stanford, California, and end on July 27 in Miami.

The band will perform at the 2024 Billboard Music Awards, which will be broadcast live on Thursday, Dec. 12, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Fox. Coldplay is nominated for two awards: Top Duo/Group and Top Rock Touring Artist.

In June, Van Dyke became the oldest Daytime Emmy winner ever when he won for his guest role on the soap opera Days of Our Lives. “I feel like a spy from nighttime television,” the actor said in his acceptance speech. “I’m the oldest nominee in history. I can’t believe it. I was playing old men all my life. If I had known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself!”
