Jennifer Lawrence, known for her candid nature, continues to be one of Hollywood’s most straightforward celebrities.
She has openly discussed everything from personal relationships with a film director to significant career errors.
Now, at 34, she’s sharing details about an awkward moment on the set of the 2018 movie, “Red Sparrow,” directed by Francis Lawrence.
In the film, Lawrence portrays Dominika Egorova, a former ballerina turned Russian spy who is thrust into espionage by her uncle, Ivan Egorov (played by Matthias Schoenaerts), a prominent Russian intelligence officer.
Dominika is trained to use her body as a tool of manipulation and power.
This is vividly portrayed in a scene at the Sparrow School where she is forced to undress in front of her classmates to demonstrate control over her own body.
This scene, Lawrence explained, underscores the psychological and dehumanizing aspects of Dominika’s training.
Reflecting on the experience of filming such scenes, Lawrence shared with reporters at a press conference for the film, “The reality of shooting them is so different from watching.”
“With Francis, he’s almost a paternal figure to me and the camera guys I’ve known since I was little.”
“It was almost like being in a nude house, like those families who get naked in front of each other.”
“It felt like that. Like, I accidentally flashed the camera guys and they were like, ‘Oh my god!'”
“You create a sense of privacy. You only have the people that need to be there and that footage only goes to me and the editor — it doesn’t go to the studio, it doesn’t go to the producers. So they feel protected in that way.”
Last year, in the movie “No Hard Feelings,” Jennifer Lawrence performed her first fully-nude scene.
In the film, she portrayed a bartender/Uber driver who is struggling to keep up with the mortgage payments on her mother’s house.
When her 32-year-old character loses her car, she answers an unusual ad from a couple desperate to find someone to ‘date’ their 19-year-old son.
Speaking to Variety, Lawrence shared, “Everyone in my life and my team is doing the right thing and going, ‘Are you sure? Are you sure? Are you sure?’ I didn’t even have a second thought. It was hilarious to me.”
Her 21-year-old co-star, Andrew Barth Feldman, noted: “Every situation that these characters end up in, you’re laughing your butt off. We became so close instantly that nothing ever felt weird or unsafe. It was entirely professional.”
