The 41-year-old American television personality has sparked mixed reactions among fans with one of his online posts.
This post includes his daughter, Penelope, whom he shares with his former partner, Kourtney Kardashian.
Disick and Kardashian had a tumultuous relationship that lasted from 2006 to 2015.
They have three children together: Mason, Penelope, and Reign.
Even though they are no longer a couple and Kardashian is currently married to Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, the former partners remain involved in each other’s lives.
In an episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Kardashian discussed her connection with Disick, stating, “Scott and I, we’re going to be in each other’s lives forever. We are soulmates, in a sense. No matter what, whether we’re ever together or not.”
Their relationship faced many challenges, including Disick’s alleged infidelities and struggles with addiction.
However, they are now focused on co-parenting their children.
The TV star shared with People: “I think Scott will always be family, and so we really try to have a good relationship for the kids, we do our best to make the kids the priority.”
Disick’s appearances over the years on Keeping Up with the Kardashians and now The Kardashians on Disney+ have certainly provided him with a significant platform, boasting an Instagram following of over 29 million.
However, some of his followers are upset about a recent Instagram post featuring him and his daughter.
One fan commented, “Wow and this is a prime example of how racism is taught. People aren’t born with it. Ignorance at its finest.”
Another user stated, “It’s a parent’s responsibility to teach a kid to do the right thing.” A third commenter concurred, saying, “All that wealth, you’d think some would go towards education on ignorance and cultural sensitivity.”
Racist stereotypes have existed for many years, including mocking the East Asian eye shape.
In East Asian countries, many people have a common eye feature called the epicanthic fold, also known as monolid eyes, where the upper eyelid connects to the inner corner of the eye.
One way some individuals express racism towards these communities is by using their fingers to stretch their eyes in an attempt to imitate their features.
The “slant-eyes” stereotype is a derogatory term used against East Asian people.
This stereotype dates back to 19th-century Western propaganda, where Asian immigrants were often illustrated in drawings with yellow skin, prominent buck teeth, and narrow eyes, according to Dictionary.com.
In the Instagram post, Disick is seen sitting with his daughter at a restaurant.
As they pose for the picture, the 12-year-old raises her eyelids.
To make the situation even more problematic, they are dining at an Asian restaurant with chopsticks visible on the table while smiling for the photo.
Many commenters interpreted this as Penelope mimicking the Asian “slant-eyes” slur since they were at an Asian restaurant.
One user expressed their disbelief, saying, “Why the F is his daughter doing that? Eating Asian food and being racist??”
However, some fans quickly came to her defense, arguing, “You people are disgusting talking about a child being racist because she made a funny face?”
Another commenter stated, “How is that racist? I see a little child making a silly face.”
A third commenter added, “I’m Chinese. If you mock Asian eyes, you pull OUT not UP.”
