Steve-O Admits He Can’t Save ‘Dying’ Jackass Co-Star Bam Margera

Along with Johnny Knoxville, Ryan Dunn, and Chris Pontius, the two are founding members of a well-known stunt group.

The Jackass TV series and movie franchise have immense popularity, as seen by the films’ over $570 million box office receipts.

But because of Margera’s unsettling remarks, Steve-O is worried about his old pal.

Fans and loved ones of Bam Margera have expressed concern for the star on previous occasions.

Since the mid-2000s, the 44-year-old has struggled with alcoholism and related legal issues. His drinking and drug use worsened after his best buddy and Jackass co-star, Ryan Dunn, was tragically murdered in a 2011 car accident at the age of just 34.

Margera discussed this period on a 2016 episode of Family Therapy With Dr. Jenn, saying, “That’s when it wasn’t even drinking for the fun or for the social part of it. It was just drinking because [of] total depression, kinda,” Us Weekly says.

Following multiple brief stays in recovery and legal run-ins, Margera’s mother told Page Six that people shouldn’t hold her son accountable for his issues.

“Everybody has a different story and everybody is going through different things,” she said. “There are going to be hiccups when you’re battling addiction. You’re not going to be 100 percent successful the first time.”

It was disclosed in 2021 that Bam Margera had lost his job at Jackass 4 due to purported contract violations.

The star was given several requirements, including regular drug tests, a commitment to abstinence, and seeing a psychologist while working, according to sources who spoke with TMZ. However, Margera did not live up to his end of the agreement.

Steve-O’s statement that he can’t save his “dying” friend was prompted by this termination.

The stunt performer and TV personality responded to Margera’s Instagram post criticizing Jackass co-creators Johnny Knoxville and Jeff Tremaine.

Alongside a photo showing Knoxville, Margera and Steve-O, Margera wrote: “One arm is a best friend who had my f***ing back all along, another arm is a poser. A pro-creation thief.”

“If Jeff Tremaine was in this photo, he would be too greedy to fit.”

“F**k jeff. Remember I tattooed that on me long ago, Jeff? It’s because I knew who you were all along.”

He then added: “Steve-O much love and respect.”

After being cut from the Jackass Forever film, Margera had a severe falling out with Tremaine and Knoxville, but she had been Steve-O’s opening act on his Bucket List comedy tour.

Steve-O left a comment on Margera’s article expressing apparent concern for his friend, stating that it “sucks” that he wants to help him but can’t.

In a now-deleted comment, he wrote: “Bam, last night you had your five-year-old son with you on stage at my show, and you were blessed with the chance to spend another day or two with him.”

Steve-O continued: “Then as soon as you left my show, you stayed up all night getting loaded enough to think it was a good idea to post more vile nonsense like this.”

“I hope you understand how awful that is. You say you want to have a relationship with your son, but your actions guarantee the exact opposite will happen.”

“I brought you on tour with me in hopes that I could get you to see what’s possible for you if you choose recovery.”

“I’ve tried everything I can, but I can’t force you to get honest and do the work of recovery.”

“I wish you could know how much I’ve hated feeling braced for news of your death, but you’re making it clear that I have no other choice.”

“You’re dying, brother, and it sucks that I can’t do anything to save you.”

Margera revealed he had been sober for more than 100 days in December of last year.

Steve-O congratulated his co-star’s enormous accomplishment on Instagram.

“I lost contact with my old buddy [Bam Margera] a while back and, even though we had a comical ‘beef’ since then, I was never even remotely mad at him.”

“It’s been awesome to hear about him celebrating more than 125 days of continuous sobriety— that’s a big deal… Congrats, Bam!”

Congratulating Margera as well, Johnny commented on Steve-O’s article and wrote: “Really happy for Bam Bam’s 125 days of sobriety. I and we love you and are rooting for you.”

However, Margera was taken into custody by Pennsylvania State Police on September 16, 2024.

He was allegedly charged with a misdemeanor for summary careless driving, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, and other connected offenses, according to court records from Chester County.

According to CBS, Margera is still awaiting a preliminary hearing about his probation violation.
