U.S. Olympic Sprinter Fred Kerley Tasered In South Florida Police Incident

U.S. Olympic runner Fred Kerley was arrested in South Florida after a fight with police, officials said.

Miami Beach police shared body camera video showing Kerley arguing with officers late Thursday night. The argument turned physical, and officers brought Kerley to the ground. Police said one officer hit him several times and then used a Taser on the 29-year-old sprinter.

Police said Fred Kerley was arrested after trying to push through an active crime scene to get to his car, which was parked nearby. Officers told him to go around, but Kerley argued with them, leading to a shoving match.

Four officers tried to arrest Kerley as he tried to avoid being taken into custody. Police used a Taser on him, and he was then taken to a hospital before being booked into the Miami-Dade County jail.

Fred Kerley is facing charges of battery, resisting an officer, and disorderly conduct. Court records do not yet show if he has a lawyer, and USA Track & Field, the organization for track and field in the U.S., has not commented on the situation.

Kerley won a silver medal in the 100 meters at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and a bronze medal in the same event at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He has also won six medals at the World Athletics Championships.
